Psychology is a great major to specialize in because it can be a pathway to many careers. A psychology degree is one of the most popular majors in the United States and is also offered at almost all universities and colleges. Since there are so many degree programs, it may be difficult to choose the best one for you. However, the following are five of the top-rated psychology schools in the United States.

Yale University – New Haven, CT

As a Yale alumni, I highly support the university and their psychology program. Yale is an Ivy League school, which offers high-quality education. One reason why Yale is an excellent school for an undergraduate degree is that Yale provides fantastic research opportunities that give students the ability to dive deep into the field. Additionally, the university offers both a Master’s and Doctorate degree in psychology for those who wish to continue their education. Yale’s graduate degrees are also highly recognized.

Vanderbilt University – Nashville, TN

At Vanderbilt University, the social science programs are the most popular amongst undergraduate students, and psychology is a favorite. The university also offers psychology majors with concentrations in Child Development, Child Studies, and Cognitive Studies. Similar to Yale, Vanderbilt provides a Master’s, Ph.D., and Ph.D. (Master’s Included) programs.

Princeton University – Princeton, NJ

A great reason to attend Princeton University for a psychology undergraduate degree is the numerous research opportunities available. Students have the chance to work with faculty to develop cutting-edge research. For students who wish to have a highly intensive research component to their degree, Princeton may be the right choice.

Washington University – St. Louis, MO

At Washington University in St. Louis, the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences has been established for almost 100 years. The school offers four primary research programs including, Social and Personality Psychology, Aging and Development, Behavior Brain and Cognition, and Clinical Psychology. Washington University is also ranked 19th in the nation regarding overall quality.

Duke University – Durham, NC

Another exceptional undergraduate psychology program is from Duke University. Students at Duke have the option to focus on abnormal and health, cognitive, social psychology, developmental or biological.  The university aims to offer different majors so that students can gain a deep understanding of their specific psychology niche.
